Did you know if you google Bunty Bailey, she has a myspace page and mentions that she was also in a Billy Idol video? I looked it up, and she looks different! Still, she was best in Take on Me...

This is what it means to me:
A man feels his partner falling out of love with him. This song is him begging her to try to love him again, to forget about their troubles, and try and find their love again. All the while acknowledging his faults, though not apologizing for who he is.
That's interesting. ... ( 3 days ago by heehaw76)
That's interesting... I was actually thinking maybe that as you said, a man recognizes his faults unapologetically and knows things will never be perfect in the real world, but is asking the woman to help renew him and bring him out of his depression, as she is his only source of hope... ???

I don't think you really understood the consept then. The beginning is the seaquel from the "Take On Me"-video, which had a happy ending, with the couple finding each other. A typical ending from most of every movie or tv-series from the 80's. In this song, a-ha tries to make a point out of the fact that real life is not all that glamourous, saying: The Sun always shines on TV, but not in real life, where most people are having their ups and downs.

I just found a comment on a separate site about one man/woman's take on the lyrics, and I found it so descriptive and insightful, I had to share it:
"The song, I think, ... ( 11 hours ago by KeiMontague)
"The song, I think, surpasses Take On Me in many ways, and its a-ha at their best.
I believe that this song is fully immersive only when one has seen the music video. In it, you see the true conclusion to the glorificent video of Take On Me, and should not be missed. If youre a hopeless romantic like me, you may feel downhearted and even disconsolate. If their storybook love could fail, what chance do we mere mortals have? I highly recommend the downloading of the video(s)."
"The rest of the ... ( 11 hours ago by KeiMontague)
"The rest of the video is great, too, featuring a host of mannequins positioned in a way that makes them seem as if they were the orchestra of the song (and yet we all know its Mags handiwork). Also, it boasts a great performance by a-ha, as well as a mystery musician on the drums."
"Now, the song. I ... ( 11 hours ago by KeiMontague)
"Now, the song. I think that the verses are pretty self-explanatory: its about inner conflict and the strife to find some form of resolution; its about the search for a place where past ailments will be gone. Self-doubt and fear of what one has become pulsates from this song."
"The remedy? A ... ( 11 hours ago by KeiMontague)
"The remedy? A significant other to wash away the pain, to silently hold him as he bides his time before realizing that everythings all right. The term the sun always shines on TV—thats something of a puzzling thing, isnt it? I always took it like this: on television, happy endings abound, but in real life, darkness occurs, as well as reckless acts of happenstance that end in sorrow."
"But, in the song, ... ( 11 hours ago by KeiMontague)
"But, in the song, Morten is reaching that almost fantasy-like state of euphoria, and all he needs is his better half to caress him, to promise her love to him, even if he doesnt really understand the magic behind it ('how can it be?')."
